Rigs & Racks hosts grand opening

Rig & Racks, Many’s newest business opened with much fanfare and enthusiasm during the noon hour on Thursday, December 17. The new gym, located on the Fisher Road, features Cross- Fit and personal training to men and women. Both Anna Cate and her husband, Dustin, are trained athletes with degrees in Health and Human Performance and Health and Exercise Science respectively.

Close up: Dr. Addison Sandel

Dr. Addison Sandel, who currently resides in Natchitoches, was born October 9, 1926, in the little town of Sandel, just south of Many on highway 171. Born Ella Addison Sandel, she goes by “Addie.” “… we lived in a very rural area that had once been a thriving little village,” she told a reporter for an oral history program a few years ago. “In fact,” she said, “it’s still on the map and it’s named Sandel, for my father.”

Many PD investigates thefts, makes arrest

The Many Police Department has received more reports of thefts on Ponder Street. These thefts took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 26. The incidents are currently being investigated by the MPD, and they already have one person is in custody and the arrest of others pending.

Tree of Remembrance celebrates 28th year

For the past 28 years, Warren Meadows Funeral Home has sponsored a Tree of Remembrance and Scroll of Honor. Grief is a particularly hard emotion to deal with, and those dealing with the emotion during the holiday season following the death of a loved one has a considerably harder time.

Spillway gates open

Due to the rising waters of Toledo Bend reservoir, the Sabine River Authority has opened five gates of the Toledo Bend spillway one-foot each. On Tuesday, December 15, the reservoir sat at 172.36-feet mean sea level.

Locals reminded of fireworks times

Many residents are reminded that the use of fireworks are allowed within certain parameters. According to town policy, it is unlawful to discharge, ignite, or explode fireworks within the Many city limits between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., but are allowed to use them until 1 a.m. on January 1.

Sabine Parish school performance scores released

District and school level performance scores have been released by the Louisiana State Dept. of Education on December 17 with the Sabine Parish School Board (SPSB) maintaining the “B” letter grade with a performance score of 87.2 and demonstrated improvement in six of the seven components of the District Performance Score (DPS) indicators.

Flag controversy moves to Sabine

A Confederate flag controversy that began with not including the Sons of Confederate Veterans in the annual Natchitoches Christmas parade extended to Sabine on December 12, as Many Mayor Ken Freeman announced that the controversial group could march and fly their flag in the town’s parade.
