Barnhill graduates renowned Advanced Space Academy

Kamryn Barnhill of Many was recently named a four-time graduate of the U.S. Space Academy program in Huntsville, Alabama, and being awarded the Commander’s Cup Award.

During her time at the U.S. Space Academy, she has acquired six hours of general science credit from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, as the Space Academy Level II programs are all college accredited.

Wear blue on June 30 for Arthrogryposis Awareness

Paisley Grace Langton is the daughter of Crystal and Blake Langton of Florien. She is the granddaughter of Sharon and Randall Sepulvado of Zwolle and Sabine Parish Registrar of Voters Kristi Anthony of Florien and the late Wade Langton.

Paisley was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, a broad term that describes a condition associated with over 400 separate diseases.

Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church begins 146th year

In traveling through the Town of Many, one cannot help but notice the small, his-toric Catholic church, Saint John the Baptist, that is cen-trally located downtown. Its Spanish architecture is im-pressive, a reminder of the history of the area. The church is beginning its 146th year and is planning a celebration this Sunday, June 25. Diocese of Shreveport Bishop Michael Duca will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10 a.m.

Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Many had its beginnings before an ac-tual church building was con-structed.

Toledo Bend receives national press

Toledo Bend Lake recently scored national press through ef-forts of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission. The article, “Toledo Bend’s True Fish Stories” gained national attention by over 121 on-line news outlets including Yahoo Finance, The Business Journal, Atlanta Business Chronicle, The Arizona Republic, San Francisco Business Times, Nashville Busi-ness Journal, and Pacific Busi-ness News.

Audience reach is calculated by how many visitors there are to each of the websites daily. This exposure reached an audience of 9.4 million people. On Twitter, the story reached 2.1 thousand followers.

Writers promote travel along El Camino Real

Much of the exposure that encourages visitors and retirees to come to Toledo Bend and Sabine Parish is provided by travel writers. The Sabine Parish Tourist Commission hosts several groups annually for outdoor adventure such as fishing, motorcycling, birding, and for history. A recent tour highlighted the El Camino Real de los Tejas, Caddo Region portion, which extends from Nacogdoches, Texas, to Natchitoches of the 2,500-mile long trail. The group consisted of 11 travel writers, photographers, and bloggers for magazines, newspapers, and online travel sites.

Despite valiant effort, Bennett falls in MMA debut

Although Brittany “Triple B” Bennett of Zwolle was defeated via TKO during her debut mixed martial arts (MMA) fight against Stephanie Foskey at Blood and Sand XXII at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on June 10.

One of the crazy things about combat sports is that, despite a fight going down as an official loss, the battle that one has fought over the course of months during training is nothing short of a victory.
