Former superintendent recognized at dedication

The CFISD community gathered to celebrate the namesake of the district’s 18th middle school at the dedication ceremony for David Anthony, Ed.D. Middle School on Nov. 2. The campus is named in honor of former CFISD superintendent Dr. David Anthony, who served the district from 2004-2011 to cap a 40-year career in public education.

Fall Fest queens stay busy

Even though the St. Jude Fall Fest is over and done for this year, the St. Jude Fall Fest Queens are still busy traveling throughout the state of Louisiana promoting next year’s festival. The weekend after the festival the girls were in Marthaville for the Good Ole Days Festival, the Sabine parish Fair and Festival Pageant, and the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta Ball

Sunshine Kids visit post office, Oct. 28

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, Mrs. Cheyenne Williams’ three-year-old class at Sunshine Kids FUMC took a short field trip to the Many Post Office to mail homemade Fall greetings home to their moms and dads. Escorted by Williams and class volunteers, Cecilia Remedies, Tonia Self and Gale Byles, the students eagerly took off on their journey.

Winners named in Pleasant Hill SCOA mealsite chili cook-off

Aroma of homemade chili wafted through the Pleasant Hill mealsite of the Sabine Council on Aging on Tuesday, Sept. 16, according to Mealsite manager, Cindy Speight. Five entries were judged by Buster Jordan, Men’s Activities director and  Jackie Snider, both of Legacy Building, SCOA in Many.

Many Masonic Lodge makes history

With a special dispensation from the Grand Masonic Lodge Louisiana, Many Lodge #411 F&AM, conducted it’s regular third Tuesday of the month meeting at the Fort Jesup Historical site. Closed Lodge proceedings were held inside the kitchen of the complex. Participants attending from three parishes enjoyed a meal and refreshments by candle and kerosene-lamp light and by the warmth of a fire in the massive open-hearth fireplace.

Zwolle Featured on Destination America “Killing Bigfoot”

On July 30 a possible Bigfoot track was found on private property in the Hurricane Valley in Zwolle near the Sabine Wildlife Management area. Later, on Aug. 28, local outdoorsman, Brandon Latimer, found a second possible track. Latimer has had two Bigfoot researchers from different groups come out at different times to speak with him and his family.
