“A Bad Year for Tomatoes” slated at Sabine Theatre

The Sabine Parish Players will be kicking off their theatre season with hilarious comedy, “A Bad Year For Tomatoes” on Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. Other performances are scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. and a Sunday, May 31 matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets ($8) may be purchased at the Box Office prior to the performance.

NHS wins big at literary rally

Negreet High School recently competed in the largest division at the Northwest Literary Rally in Natchitoches. Negreet won the Sweepstakes against 14 other schools. A total of 62 Negreet students competed with the following placing in the top five

“Balloons over Desoto” provides unique entertainment for the area

Activities continue to be added up until the last minute to DeSoto Parish’s First Annual Balloons Over DeSoto Event to be held on May 8, 9 and 10. DeSoto Parish residents as well as the surrounding area will have the opportunity to be a part of something historic at the first ever hot air balloon show. The event will be filled with family fun for an entire weekend, and is sponsored by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury and DeSoto Parish Tourism Board. If you’ve ever heard the old 1960’s hit, “Would You Like to Ride in My Beautiful Balloon,” you will have a chance to do just that. For a fee, both tethered and untethered balloon rides, will be offered on during the weekend.

Sabine students inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta

Northwestern State University inducted 269 students into Alpha Lambda Delta First-Year Honor Society Sunday. Students eligible for membership must be a full-time student enrolled in a bach-elor’s degree program for the Fall 2014 semester with no developmental courses. The inductees represent the top 20 percent of the first year class with a minimum semester and cumulative 3.5 grade point average.

Mansfield SHS to hold 150th anniversary re-enactment

Come to Mansfield State  Historic Site on Saturday, May 16, to learn how the Civil War concluded in Northwest Louisiana.
Living history programs will be conducted throughout the day depicting the lives of civilians and soldiers in 1865 Louisiana.

Photos from the Past: Three couples in Fisher

This photo of three couples in the Fisher area was made in the 1930s or 1940s. The photo’s owner, Nell Caudill, named two of the couples. The first “Hamp” Eason and his wife, JoElla. The second couple is her grandparents, Marion Columbus “Lum” Eason Sr. and his wife, Laura. The third couple in the center of the photo is unknown, and Caudill hopes someone will know who it is.
