Sometimes I feel so irresponsible. I had one of “those days” several weeks ago when I went to Alexandria with hubby-dear. The plan was to go to Sam’s and then he was going to drop me off while I did some retail therapy while he was at a meeting. Everything went well until five stores after Sam’s I realized I couldn’t find my Master Card. I had only used it in Sam’s. There was a line of people behind me and when I stuck my card in the slot and was approved, I hurriedly put in in my pocket or my purse and proceeded to hubby-dear who had gone to get the car.

Remembering When. . .

There has been a lot of publicity about Mardi Gras. The TV and newspapers are full of information about the upcoming events. It doesn’t entice me. It would take more than a few strings of plastic beads to make me stand out in the cold to watch the parades. I know a lot of hard work has gone into the annual event, but I will watch it from the ‘tele” instead. One man who has a business along the way of the parade route was being interviewed. When asked if he was going to remain open he said that he was going to close, as people only came in to use the restrooms without buying anything.

Kudos to the Sabine Parish School Board and Janet Elam. Together with Supt. Sara Peace Ebarb, they are offering local teens a chance to get a taste of being onstage and learn about the theatre!! The Sabine Parish Student’s Drama Production is underway and the response has been great. Elam, who moved to Many with her husband several years ago, is the secretary to Supt. Ebarb. She and her husband, Gary, who worked at MidSouth Bank and is now employed at the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Dept., became active in the Sabine Parish Players and have brought joy and laughter to the hundreds who have attended plays in the Sabine Theatre (now the Many Community Center) and at the First United Methodist Church of Many.

Remembering When. . .

One thing we could count on when we were little was to have company on Sunday after dinner. At least once a month, my great uncle would bring his wife and his sister to visit with us for a few hours. My grandmother’s name was Frances, and even after she died, my aunt Laura and Alice still came around to visit with my mother.

I am eagerly anticipating the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl. I’ve always loved football…from watching games with my Dad to playing powder puff games in high school and in college to cheering for the PRC Wildcats, who were the 1969-1970 Mississippi Junior College Champions!! In high school I was fortunate enough to meet several members of the exhibition team of the New Orleans Saints. They put together a basketball team and traveled to Picayune, Mississippi to take on our coaches. I stood in line at halftime with hundreds of kids to get their autographs—Billy Kilmer, Danny Abramowiz, John Gilliam and Joe Wendryhoski. Still have them, pasted in a scrapbook!!

Remembering When. . .

A while ago I was asked to pray for a family that is going through a rough patch. They are suffering from the loss of a job, and health problems as well. As I pondered about their situation I began to think about the trials and stressful situations in my past and how prayer and faith has brought me to this point in time.

Hubby-dear mentioned his concern about me being addicted to Facebook several months ago. He alleged that every time he looked at me, I was busy scrolling and finding out all the news from my large number of “friends.” He was right. Facebook is how I keep connected. A large amount of information travels into my account and I diligently read it all and comment on most posts. One thing I really like about Facebook is the crazy tests that pop up, like “What Disney Character are you?” or “What color is your aura?” Just last week, I discovered that I was my cousin, Dawn’s evil twin!! I certainly didn’t need Facebook to tell me that!

It was the day of the Sugar Bowl 2016 and the Ole Miss Rebels had already been practicing in New Orleans, readying for the big game. On the other side of the ball, Oklahoma State had also arrived in the Big Easy. Pam and John Toliver, church friends, were also in New Orleans with their family, catching the sights. She posted several photos—one of two buses, representing each team—for me. I think she may have even yelled a Hotty Toddy !

My Christmas holidays ended at 10:45 on Sunday morning the 27th of December when my son came by for a brief visit before he left to go back home to Austin. All the fun and merriment, the good food, games, movies, and recalling other happy moments from Christmas past came to an end.

This year is the year of organization. It’s past time to clean out closets, organize my books and toss out things I don’t need. Making the decision on what to keep and what to throw away will be a major ordeal for me because I am a real packrat!! I hate to throw things away because I’ve convinced myself that someday I might need them.
