Mother was an excellent cook, even on a tight budget when we were traveling around the states while Daddy was in the military.
She had handed-down recipes from her mother and shared recipes with other Marine wives and friends from California to Hawaii, to North Carolina, Arizona, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Mississippi and Louisiana. She also had a recipe book with clipped recipes she found in magazines that she wanted to try.
Brother and I have fond memories of some of her best recipes--- the family spaghetti sauce, which only family gets; her famous chocolate cake, pasties, goulash and New Orleans pork chops. Every once in a while I’ll make Dried Beef Gravy over toast or mashed potatoes, which Daddy called SOS and Mother called “Cowboy Meat” so brother would eat it!!
