OPINION: Data doesn’t support ‘Cancer Alley’ designation in Louisiana

A number of publications in Louisiana ran a piece recently using a quote from President Joe Biden that made an off-handed reference to “Cancer Alley” in Louisiana.

Where the president got the information or how he decided it was worth mentioning in his speech is something I do not know. But what I can say, unequivocally, is that the notion of industrial production creating a “Cancer Alley” in Louisiana is false.

For many years, headlines have tried to link Louisiana’s poor health rankings to the state’s Industrial Corridor, an area of the lower Mississippi River that is home to the state’s strong chemical, refining and manufacturing economy. This insinuation has gone on for so long and become so ingrained in the fabric of Louisiana’s news media that the area has become routinely, and incorrectly, called “Cancer Alley.”

GOODBYE RUSH

We will always miss Rush Limbaugh. The announcement of his death not only saddens us but it also will take out one of the greatest voices against the left that America has, a true conservative. His view points would cut through propaganda and bring reality and morality back into your minds and hearts when he spoke.

On the Bright Side

“What do you do?”

“I’m a stay-at-home mom,” I replied with eye contact and a smile.

The “what do you do” question doesn’t bother me, though, because I dearly love my calling, or in my case — my answered prayer.

You see, for many years while my colleagues were praying for a promotion, I was pleading with God to let me be at home with my babies.

Ask Rusty – How Will My Wife’s Benefits Be Affected by My State Pension?

Dear Rusty: I am 73 and receive a pension from my state’s Police and Fire Pension Fund. I took a full pension, so my wife only gets a widow’s pension when I die, and this is only a fraction of what my full pension is. I also get a small Social Security benefit, about $95 a month, and that amount is pro-rated because of the amount of my state pension. My wife is 71 and receives a Social Security benefit of about $600 a month. When I die, can she get a portion of my Social Security benefit? And will it increase since she will not be getting my full state pension? Signed: Retired Public Servant

RESULTS

The way many of our politicians talk with such exaggerated and optimistic figures, it is interesting to find out what the results really are. When the U.S. census was released recently we found that our population in Louisiana has decreased by 13,000 people to make it one of 16 states to lose population between 2019 and 2020.

Brigadier General Chuck Yeager left ‘a legacy of strength, adventure, and patriotism’

Brigadier General Chuck Yeager left ‘a legacy of strength, adventure, and patriotism’

Chuck Yeager

Before there was a U.S. Space Force, there was a U.S. Air Force and before that there was the Army Air Corps and a genuine American hero by the name of Chuck Yeager. He passed away on December 7, Pearl Harbor Day, with not enough fanfare. Oh, there were news reports about his death at the age of 97, but not enough of a sendoff for someone who did what he did with his life. Perhaps it was because the COVID crisis was taking up so much of the media’s time; or maybe it was because it’s not in fashion these days to celebrate the accomplishments of daring, gallant, stout-hearted men like Brigadier General Yeager.

Charles Elwood Yeager had what author Tom Wolfe called “The Right Stuff.” He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1941 and distinguished himself right from the get-go.

On the Bright Side

Scott and Meagan Chisholm of Zionsville, Indiana, were visiting friends last November when their 23-month-old twins, Levi and Lainey, were involved in a near-fatal drowning.

Miraculously, Lainey made what doctors have called a “truly miraculous” recovery. But MRI results showed that Levi has extensive brain damage and will have a long road to recovery.

Immediately, Meagan began clinging to her unwavering faith in Christ. She and Scott set up a Facebook page called “Light for Levi and Lainey” to chronicle their journey, share their faith, and ask for the prayers and encouragement of others.

As a result, thousands have come together, many that the Chisholms do not know personally, to pray for Levi and to support the family.

IMPEACHMENT OF TRUMP

The Democrats do not want to let go of their hatred for former President Donald Trump. Rather than take care of the nation’s business, which they need to do so desperately, they want to try to have a trial to impeach him. With their majority in the House and a very angry Democratic Chairman they are letting that take precedent. One impeachment trial has already taken place which resulted in an acquittal last year. The president has already been defeated and as a private citizen and some say there is no justification or legal precedent to do this. They absolutely hate him.
