To the Citizens of Sabine Parish:
I, Jermaine Thomas, hereby formally and publicly announce my candidacy for School Board Member in District 8 (Zwolle).
The adolescent son of Roy, Sr. and Mary Thomas, I am a lifelong & current resident of Zwolle, LA. I completed my formal education at Zwolle High School in May 1997, commencing one full academic school year ahead of my graduating class of 1998. I attended college at Grambling State University and received a BS Degree in Computer Information Systems in Spring 2001. Immediately furthering my education, I enrolled and attended Graduate Studies at NSU and was awarded a Masters Degree in Education in the Fall of 2002, and Plus 30 Hours in 2003.
I am a State Certified Educator with a Level 3 teaching license from the Louisiana Department of Education. I’ve been working in Education for 20+ years and am employed in Natchitoches Parish. I’ve worked strenuously in my career as a Mathematics Teacher, receiving outstanding evaluations and observations from numerous principals. In 2020, I started the Robotics Program at Natchitoches Junior High School and built the program from the ground up, being recognized as the BEST STEM Teacher by NSU’s STEM Pioneers in 2025. I currently am the Robotics Instructor and also the Leader of the Technology Department at Natchitoches Junior High School.
I’m the Founder of The Boys to Men Club, a 501(c)(3) IRS-recognized mentoring group for youth males founded in 2018 that focuses on youth mentorship, leadership, and acceptable academic sustainability! A former Elected Councilmember in the Town of Zwolle from 20182022, I gained valuable experienced within the Municipal Government by spending some of my term serving over the Town Office, some time as the Town Treasurer, and some time over the Streets Department.
In 2022, I founded Thomas Transportation Services, LLC, where we provide transportation services to anyone, regardless of age, to their medical appointments. I serve as the CEO and am committed to meeting the needs of our citizens.
I am a current and lifelong member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Zwolle where I have been serving as an ordained Deacon for the past 17 years under the leadership of the late Rev. Mitchell James, and now currently under the leadership of Chief Daniel Thomas, whom is my pastor.
I’ve raised 2 loving children in the beloved Community of Zwolle: My son, Jermaine Thomas, Jr, whom is enrolled in Welding at Bossier Parish Community College and will commence his studies as a Certified Welder in December 2026.
My daughter, Se’Niya Thomas, whom is just beginning her matriculation this forthcoming Fall semester at NSU as a Registered Nurse.
Education is important to me as you can see. I became an Educator because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of our youth. I’ve seen the good as well as the not-sogood. I’ve been in the classroom, taught lessons as a Mathematics teacher, dealt with discipline issues with students, wrote lesson plans, critiqued lesson plans of others, endured some struggles as a teacher, celebrated gains as a teacher, and so much more...all within the walls of a school.
For these reasons, I am qualifying to become an integral part of the prestigious school board in Sabine Parish. I truly believe that the best and most effective board members come from those who have real-life education experience and have EXPERIENCED the trials & tribulations of education, and thus, can relate to the needs of today in the education system.
That person is me. I believe in standing up for what is not only RIGHT, but also that which is FAIR. I encourage you to exercise your right to vote in November. The people we elect will have a SERIOUS & DIGNIFIED assignment that goes far beyond the walls of a Board Meeting. These elected officials will be in charge of our CHILDREN and will make decisions that will affect our future...the CHILDREN!
My door is always open and my phone is always answered. Again, I encourage you to vote wisely during this upcoming election. Put people in place that are qualified and experienced! People that have been where the teachers and children are right now! People that will concurrently work on the struggles and will recognize & celebrate the gains and accomplishments!
Vote for Jermaine Thomas as your next School Board Member for District 8.
Sincerely Yours, Jermaine S. Thomas, Sr, BS, M.Ed, Plus 30
