Sabine Parish only had a few items on the ballot for the March 29 election, with one of those measures being the closest in recent memory.
Those voting chose incumbent Mary Brocato to return to her position as the town of Many’s Alderman at Large for the next four years. Brocato won with 51 percent of the votes, with only five total separating her from challenger Jamey McIntyre. Broken down it the totals were 200 votes for Brocato and 195 for McIntyre, with unofficial turnout being 34.3 percent of those voting.
Many Police Chief Cheryl Wooley was overwhelmingly chosen to return to her position in an extreme landslide victory. She received 281 votes, or an astounding 72 percent of all votes cast in her favor against challenger Phillip “Koolaid” Cutrer, who received 114 votes.
Dean Johnson was elected as Sabine Parish School Board member for District 9 with 331 votes cast for, or 76 percent of the vote. Sheryl Scott received 107 votes, representing
Statewide, all four constitutional amendments failed with very little support from the general public. Sabine proved to be the opposite, generally supporting all four.
Amendment 1 regarding disciplinary proceedings over attorneys from out of state was favored here by 59 percent of the vote, or 1,654 total cast in favor. There were 1,156 voting against parish wide.
The controversial Amendment 2 received favorable votes by 63 percent of Sabine, or 1,763 ballots cast for. There were 1,057 cast against.
Amendment 3 regarding juvenile crime was favored in Sabine by 56 percent of those voting, or 1,575 for. There were 1,231 votes cast against.
Amendment 4 received 59 percent of favorable votes in Sabine, with 1,642 cast for, or 59 percent, to 1,160 against.
