Children across the parish are participating in the 1000 Books before Kindergarten initiative by listening to books read to them.

Parents record the number of books read, and the children receive prizes for every 100 books. Research has shown that the most important thing a parent can do to prepare a child for school is to read to him or her.

Beginning the program by reading 100 books were Charli Malmay, daughter of Chanse and Madalyn Malmay of Zwolle; and Hagan Laroux, son of Brooke and Sam Laroux of Noble.

Completing 500 books was Fisher Loetsher, son of Matt and Sydney Loetsher of Noble.

Completing the program by reading 1000 books was Jeryn Palmer, daughter of Jerry and Allie Palmer of Noble.

This program is available at all branches of the Sabine Parish Library. Call 256-4150 for more information.
