Toledo Bend Lake Association (TBLA) is investing in the future by awarding college scholarships to deserving students around the Toledo Bend Lake Area. Four years ago TBLA instituted the Glynn Carver Memorial Scholarship honoring the man who devoted much of his life to improving his community. This year’s recipient is Miss Katie McClure of Hemphill High School, who impressed the scholarship committee with her attitude and determination toward excellence. Katie received the Glynn Carver Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $6000. She will be studying Education at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches.

In light of the number of qualified candidates applying for the scholarship this year, TBLA approved additional funding to award more scholarships. Miss Matea Whittington was awarded $3000. Matea is a graduating senior from Zwolle High School and plans to study Ag Education at Southern Arkansas University. Miss Bailey Strother was also awarded $1000. Bailey is a graduating senior from Hemphill High School and plans to study Nursing at Baylor University.

TBLA is committed to improving the communities surrounding the Toledo Bend Lake Area, and one of the many ways it does so is by empowering the youth. TBLA supports area high school fishing teams, 4-H shooting teams, the LDWF 5th Grade Aquatic Education Days, SWCD Kids Fish Fest which is held the first Saturday in June, and back-to-school supplies for children in Many and Hemphill.
