Awards were recently given to these and other Sabine Parish 4-H youth exhibitors who had great success at the 2022 NW District Horse Show which was open to all 4-H and FFA members from 12 parishes. Sabine Parish was well represented with winners and State Qualifiers in showmanship, halter, western, ranch, English, and speed events. The show was once again held at the Red River Cowboy Church arena in Coushatta, LA and drew competitors from all over Northwest Louisiana. This year’s entries more than doubled the total entries from 2021. Custom prizes and even money payouts were awarded to the top finishers in all categories.

The 4-H horse project, which is open to all 4-H and F.F.A. members, is popular because it promotes and teaches animal husbandry, work ethic, responsibility, planning, and dedication. There are classes offered and prizes awarded to all breeds of horses which compete in Showmanship, Halter, English, Western, Ranch, or Speed disciplines. Chris Pearce, the NW District Horse Show Superintendent, stated that everyone from the Sabine Parish Extension Office congratulates all the local competitors for a job well done. Sabine Parish was very well represented.

If anyone has a youth with an interest in showing horses, they can contact Chris Pearce at the LSU AgCenter at 318256-3406. He would love to get more of our youth involved in our shows and is looking forward to an even bigger and better show in 2023.
