Spay/Neuter Program
The Sabine Humane Society offers a monthly spay and neuter voucher program. Vouchers are available to the first 15 callers, and the society will pay 50 percent of the cost to the vet. For those on Medicaid or Medicare, the society will pay 100 percent of the cost of spaying or neutering.
Interested parties are asked to call 318-645-7156 at 8 a.m. on the first day of the month. You should leave a message indicating you are interested in a voucher and provide your name and phone number.
Spay/Neuter Assistance
Get your pet fixed for FREE! If you are a resident of Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Sabine, or Webster Parish and take home $1,500 or less per month OR are married and, as a couple, take home $2,500 or less per month, Robinson’s Rescue will spay/neuter your pet and provide them with a rabies vaccine for free. This free program is referred to as our Subsidized Spay/ Neuter Incentive Program (SSNIP).
To apply for a SSNIP voucher you must visit Robinson’s Rescue, located at 2515 Line Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71104, between the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and bring with you printed proof of income or proof or government assistance showing your monthly income (examples include pay stubs, food stamps budget sheets, social security benefit summaries, etc.) and your Louisiana I.D. Once a voucher has been written for you, you may then schedule an appointment at Robinson’s Rescue for your pet to be spayed/ neutered. SNAP outreach services
The Food Bank of Central Louisiana’s SNAP Outreach Coordinator, Sheila Jarred, will travel throughout the organization’s service area to assist with food stamp applications. Appointments and telephone interviews can be scheduled by calling the Food Bank of Central Louisiana at 318-445-2773 or 318-792-4036.
They are at the Sabine Parish Council on Aging the fourth Wednesday of every month from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides families in poverty with benefits to purchase food. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) reports several Louisiana parishes where only 60 percent of those eligible participate in the program.
In addition to providing assistance with SNAP applications, the Food Bank’s Outreach Coordinator can also assist with applications for child care assistance program, child support assistance program, child support enforcement program, family independence temporary assistance program, kinship care subsidy program, disaster supplemental nutrition assistance program formerly known as disaster food stamps.
Alzheimers support group
A free monthly support group is available to families and loved ones who care for someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
The meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at noon. A lite lunch is provided.
The meeting is hosted by the Sabine Council on Aging at 200 Legacy Drive, Many. The groups are facilitated by Many Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Insights Behavioral Hospital.

Ft. Jesup events
The Friends of Fort Jesup will be hosting several Living History events at Fort Jesup Historic Site in 2020. The historic site remains on caretaker status so these events may be your only chance to visit Fort Jesup State Historic Site this year.
Fort Fest: History, Heritage, Arts and Crafts Festival – Saturday September 12. Visit Fort Jesup and learn about the history and heritage of the military post and community of Fort Jesup from the Louisiana Purchase through the creation of the site as State Historic Site in the 1960s. There will be Living History Demonstrations, arts and crafts, games, and activities for all ages through the day.

Summer Food Service Program
The Pine Belt Multi-Purpose CAA, Inc. is participating in the Summer Food Service Program beginning June 1 – July 31, 2021. “Grab-N-Go” lunches will be provided to all children without charge for ages 0-18 years. Acceptance and participating requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, nationality, origin, sex or disability and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at the following locations: Bethel Baptist Church, 195 W. Georgia Avenue, Many, LA; New Jerusalem 780 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Many, LA; and Tabernacle of Love, 1540 Camilia Street, Zwolle, LA. “Grab-N-Go” lunches can be picked up between 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., on Monday - Thursday (Thursday’s distribution will include Friday’s meal). October 27
St. John Book Signing
On Wednesday evening, October 27th at 6PM, there will be an exclusive book signing event to mark the official release of the book, Shreveport Martyrs of 1873: The Surest Path to Heaven. The book details the story of the heroic virtue of the five Martyrs of the Shreveport Epidemic of 1873, including the first priest of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Father Francois LeVezouet. The event will take place at the St John the Baptist hall in Many with the three authors giving a short talk about the experiences they had while writing the book. Everyone is invited to attend and welcome the authors, Rev Peter Mangum, Dr. Cheryl White and Ryan Smith. There will be a reception afterwards as well as an opportunity to purchase autographed books. You don’t want to miss this special event!

Mt. Zion Homecoming
Mt Zion Baptist Church Homecoming will be celebrating 120yrs Sunday October 31 at 11 a.m.
They will have an Old Timers Day and ask that men wear overalls/ suspenders and women wear bonnets.
Lunch will be served after the service.
