Donald H. Remedies is the 10th of 11 children born to the late Robert and Gladys Remedies. Donald’s father, Robert Remedies, served as the Tamale Fiesta King in 1985, the 10th anniversary of the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta. Now, Donald is following in his footsteps.
Mr Remedies is a 1977 graduate of Zwolle High School where he played on the baseball and basketball teams. Growing up he worked in whatever capacity was needed for his father’s logging business. After graduation he worked full time sawing logs for his father and also his brothers logging jobs. In 1984 he went to work as a Logging Administrator for Walsh Timber Co., LLC where he is still employed. He and his wife of 42 years, Ann Walsh Remedies are the parents of 3 children, Valerie Martinez, Christopher Remedies and Donald Hugh Remedies, Jr., deceased. They also have 6 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Donald, better known as Hootie to many, has been active in the community for many years. He served as Zwolle City Council Member from 2007 until 2010. He is currently the school board member for Sabine Parish District 8 and has served in that position since 2011. He is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he serves as an usher. He has also served on the finance committee and overseen the annual Church Bazaar. Donald is also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He has also served on the Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce. He has been the President of Zwolle Dixie Youth, Inc. since 1999 and has previously served as President and Vice-President of Sabine Parish Dixie Youth, Inc. His hobbies include hunting and fishing.
Donald is honored to serve as the King of the 2021 Zwolle Tamale Fiesta.
