Sabine 4-H members Jackson Beasley and Xander Holland are both members of the Louisiana Team which traveled to Grand Island, Nebraska, to compete at the National Shooting Sports Championship from June 20th - 25th . Competitors from around the nation honed their skills and spent untold hours of practice, in order to qualify for this prestigious event which hosted 599 youth from 38 states.

While at the Championship, 4-H teams competed in nine separate disciplines. Youth have the opportunity to participate and qualify through preliminary tournaments in compound archery, recurve archery, air pistol, air rifle, small bore rifle, small bore pistol, muzzleloader, shotgun, or hunting skills.

Louisiana sent 36 competitors and an entourage of parents, team coaches, and chaperones which are a vital part of this process and make it possible to get the participants from the hotels to the proper meeting places, shooting venues, and awards banquets. Chris Pearce, from the LSU AgCenter, coached the Hunting Skills team and led the entire Louisiana delegation.
