Robert Hable was elected as new town of Many mayor following the March 20 election in one of the closest watched races in recent history.

Hable, a Republican, was elected with 54 percent of the vote, or 54 percent of all 520 votes cast. Placing second was Democrat Ernest L. Williams with 131, or 25 percent of the vote. Democrat James D. Kennedy, a long-time town councilman, received 91 votes (18 percent). Mike Tarver received 15 votes for three percent of all votes cast.

Stephen Steinke received 35 percent or 201 votes out of the 571 total cast to be the District 3 member of the Sabine Parish Police Jury. He will enter a runoff with Joseph A. Hendon, who received 113 votes, or 20 percent of the total. Also receiving votes were Truman Nichols (42, or 7 percent), Dewayne “Porkchop” Rains (69, or 12 percent), Jeff D. Scaife (66, or 12 percent), Mike Smith (14, 2 percent), and Chris Sylvia (66, 12 percent). Every candidate running for the office registered as a Republican.
