Bobby Williams of Florien recalled the excitement of inauguration day in 1953, which he attended while enrolled in Officer School at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.
“In the fall of 1952, I had returned from overseas duty and was stationed near Washington, D.C.,” he stated.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower had been elected president of the United States to replace President Harry S. Truman.
“Our officer’s school was ordered to enter a unit in the inauguration parade,” he recalled.
He did not remember how but managed to be relieved of the parade duty.
