The Many Jaycees and the Sabine Parish School Board launched Operation POW (Prisoners of War). The purpose of the project is to assist the families of prisoners of war in Southeast Asia. Students in the parish schools are encouraged to write letters according to Jaycee President Valmore Byles.

A 39-year-invalid, who lived at his parent’s home in Fisher, lost his life in a fire. His father tried to save him, but was overcome by smoke. Investigators decided a leaf of a newspaper flew into the heater, causing the blaze.
