A sad year became suddenly worse on October 7 when a search party organized by the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office found the body of Taylor Nichols was found in a wooded area 600 yards west of Highway 171.

A search for the 27-year-old was sparked near the end of September after the deceased hadn’t been heard from since September 18, they day of her disappearance. Her beige 2004 Ford Expedition was reported in the Many Walmart parking lot.

On October 2, detectives reviewed security footage from Walmart, which shown that Nichols parked her vehicle before entering the store for a short time. Upon her exit she went back to her vehicle, then started walking toward the south exit of the parking lot.

Later, her ID card was found in the field between Walmart and Patrick-Miller Tractor Co. The area quickly became an area of interest for the sheriff’s office. Her vehicle was also taken to the processed for possible evidence. A survey of additional security camera footage from neighboring businesses contained more further evidence. Her cell phone records also shown no usage since her date of disappearance. Detectives also interviewed several acquaintances for leads, in addition to contacting the FBI Shreveport Office and ROCIC RISS Center for assistance.
