I was thinking about working at The Sabine Index recently and recalled two people who made my job just a little bit more frantic as presstime loomed.

Fortunately I was a fast typist even though my typing instructors in high school and college constantly were after me about looking at my fingers. I tried to explain that I wasn’t searching for the letters on the typewriter, but they never understood. I still watch my fingers….but I get the job done and quickly.

Back in the early years when I was at the local newspaper, we (meaning the reporters) wrote our stories in long hand or typed them and then took them to the typesetters for to type into the machine for copy.
