COVID-19 pandemic continues; Sabine sees cases rise

Cases of the dreaded COVID-19 virus continue to climb in Sabine Parish, with several families completely devastated after the death toll simultaneously climbs.

On Friday, July 24, the Department of Homeland Security in Sabine Parish reported 15 new cases to bring the parish to a total of 445. By the end of the weekend, the numbers had shot up to 480 total positive tests with 269 being listed as not recovered. Six people lost their lives to the virus over the past two weeks.

The pandemic has had monumental implications statewide, and Sabine is also feeling the negatives of them as well. Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Louisiana rose last week to 32,079 from the previous weeks’ total of 26,351 according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. During July of last year, they fielded 2,349 claims for reference.
