LEGISLATURE GETTING IT TOGETHER
As the legislature is getting things together for the upcoming session of 2020 there are a few things that are certain. One is that they will be bumping heads on a lot of issues. Another thing for certain is that we all know the Governor has to be in the mix if possible. Another thing is that they all seem to express an interest in working together. It is much better to pass bills that the Governor feels he will sign. On the other hand, the Governor must be wise enough to realize that if a bill comes out with strong consent it is not a good idea for him to object.
It appears that the high insurance rates will be a big topic in the upcoming session. This attack on tort reform will be a real test of the balance of both sides of the legislature. To improve it will be a big start on tort reform, but that will not be easy against the Governor. He states that he must be convinced that insurance companies won’t charge more to people based on gender, marital status and whether they are a veteran or not. Some of our legs will come out for tort reform only to get recognized but will fade when opposition appears. Who knows where it all will end or to what the solution is. You can be assured as you ride up and down the highways in Louisiana nowhere do you see advertisements about suing businesses like you do in Louisiana.
