Grant to allow free music lessons for children

Current piano students Ivy’vana Turner with her mother Shateria Turner, piano teacher, Suzanne Williams, and Isabel Etheridge with her mother, Tiffany Sepulvado are awarded with their practice keyboards and a Certificate of Achievement for having been in the music program for 5 months. Unfortunately, Pastor Donna Thomas of Right Word Full Gospel Ministry in Zwolle and Vice President of the Sabine Community Connection was not available for the presentation.

The Sabine Community Connection, located in Zwolle, recently received a $1,000 grant from AEP-SWEPCO to help with their music program that began in June and has grown to include four piano students. Another anonymous grant of $1,650 was also received and allows for more free lessons to area students wanting to learn how to read and play music.

Beginning guitar lessons are also offered in addition to piano lessons. The grants will help supply students with a practice keyboard and/or guitar to “check out” and take home so they can practice every day. Lessons are given weekly by a professional musician and are FREE to the student. Music lessons are also offered to adults who have always wanted to learn how to play and never had the opportunity.
