TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM
With so many of our citizens running for office and pledging to spend our tax dollars more wisely wouldn’t it be good if a few pledged a particular plan they would legislate to be used. Louisiana’s transportation is ranked as one of the worse in the country and you know that we keep going on with this one election after another. Our investment in infrastructure, many of our road and bridges are deficient, and congestion in major cities abound and all we do is repair. It is reported that Louisiana has not increased its investment in infrastructure in thirty years and it is obvious we are falling behind our neighboring states. Louisiana has a maintenance backlog for highways and bridges totaling more than $14 billion and when you add in the high priority mega projects it reaches $15 billion and it cannot be funded. To make matters worse we don’t even have the matching funds to put up with the federal government, which is available to repair these roads. Neighboring states are far ahead of us. Yet, even with these problems you still see Louisiana spends money head over heels on feel-good projects. Why don’t one of our legislative candidates pledge legislation that will correct this problem through some method, even toll roads if necessary.
That is kind of how we got Toledo Bend Lake. Through the efforts of many people they got Cliff Ammons to run for State Representative. He promised when he ran that would be the first thing he would do, and it was. As Caddo Parish Representative Frank Fulco stated, “Cliff came here to hawk Toledo Bend Dam, so we gave it to him to shut him up.” Somebody needs to start hollering and mean it about our infrastructure.
