Miss Louisiana International to speak at Rotary

The 2018 Mrs. Louisiana International will be the special guest speaker at the Many Rotary Club meeting and luncheon on Thursday, September 27, at the VFW Hall.

Crystal Barrow, a special combination of beauty and brains, the reigning Mrs. Louisiana and an accomplished journalist, volunteer, and the wife of a broadcasting IT engineer.

As an education reporter and anchor at KTAL TV, Channel 6, the NBC Shreveport station, Crystal enjoys enriching lives and telling the stories of those in the Northwest Louisiana community.  Thousands wake up to Crystal five days a week as she covers and anchors the morning news.  Crystal has been a full-time journalist since 2008.

Her academic accomplishments include a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

Crystal has more than 13 years of experience as a journalist.  To name a few highlights, she has interviewed Rick Santorum, the 2012 Republican vice-presidential nominee. She has also covered former First Lady Michelle Obama's Joining Forces project.  Crystal has also interviewed entertainers including Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, and Charlie Wilson.

Being involved in the community is important to Crystal.  As Mrs. Louisiana International 2018, Crystal is traveling the state promoting her platforms: "Open Books - Open Opportunities: Promoting Literacy". She raises money for books to support third world countries in need of libraries

Her second platform is the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign.

Crystal has been married to Mac Glen Barrow for five years.  The couple met at KTAL-TV in 2011 and wed at the Randle T. Moore mansion in Shreveport.

Traveling and eating out with family and friends is the most fun to Crystal, although she is also enjoying her beginner scuba-diving classes to become certified.

She is a former student and advisee of Mary Brocato in broadcast journalism at NSU.  The two have remained friends since her graduation. While at NSU, Crystal served as a news anchor and reporter for NSU 22 News.
