My prayer shawl is one of my most prized possessions.

The muted pink and white shawl came as a total surprise when my dear friend, Diann, presented it to me at the end of a Bible study in the spring.

My life was in turmoil. Mother had become a resident at Sabine Retirement and Rehabilitation after staying home with my brother since PaPaw’s death in 2013. Her health deteriorated slowly and it became evident that she needed round-the-clock care. My brother needed a break, too. He employed a sitter for almost a year and mother became quite attached to sweet Ida. After almost a year, she, too, moved on and we were faced with the decision of moving her to SRRC. Mom agreed and we moved her to the “retirement home” with pictures of kittens and family decorating her room. My brother purchased a nice big recliner for her and a love seat for visitors.
