In what has become one of the more popular religious celebrations throughout Sabine, numerous local residents, including clergy and municipal leaders, met at Converse on May 4 to celebrate the annual National Day of Prayer.
The National Day of Prayer is celebrated by Americans of numerous religions, with many assembling to pray in front of courthouses, churches, and other local buildings. The modern law formalizing the day was enacted in 1952, even though earlier days of fasting had been established by the Second Continental Congress from 1775 until 1783, and by President John Adams in 1798 and 1799.
