Remembering When. . .

When I was a child, there were two phrases that were used quite a lot at our house; one was “I’m telling” and another one was “It’s not fair.” The tattling that was done was never about anything outrageous, just little acts that might cause our siblings to lose some of our mother’s approval while we went around wearing an imaginary halo for a little while. It didn’t always work out that way. One time I heard my mother say that she wished she had a switch, so she could use it on Pee Wee, and when I ran and fetched one for her, she used it on me instead.
