A child from the Sunshine Kids at the First United Methodist Church’s Early Learning Center is shown getting his eyes tested by a Leo Club member from Many High. Lion Randy Walsworth, standing, watches closely as Lion Mary Lee, left, reads testing information.

The tests show if there is a problem with the child’s eyesight and allows the screeners to refer the child to an eye doctor in order to correct the problem before they enter school. By taking a photo of the child’s eyes with a special camera, it can be determined if the child has amblyopia, commonly referred to as Lazy Eye, or any other eye diseases. By monitoring how the child’s eyes react to light, testers are able to determine in these children with early detection and appropriate care.
