The Twelfth Annual Youth Fish Fest was held Saturday June 5, 2021. The day began as a very windy and overcast morning, but luckily the rain held off, as the Sixty-nine fishermen entered Cypress Bend Park free, courtesy of the Sabine River Authority. The event was open to school age children registered in kindergarten through 12th grade for the school year 2020-2021 attending schools in Louisiana and Texas. Fishermen signed in early, staked out their spots and were eagerly waiting for the clock to strike 7:30 a.m., so they could begin to fish.

Anglers had high hopes of catching one of the top three fish in the six specie categories of bass, bream, catfish, white perch, turtle, and other. All fishermen were reminded to be sure to have their heaviest fish to the scales for weigh-in no later than 11:00 a.m. As the day continued the skies began to clear the wind calmed and the atmosphere was full of excitement as the anglers ran back and forth from the lake to the weigh-in station hoping they had caught the winning fish.
