The Fort Jesup Society recently welcomed C.A.R. members from across the state to celebrate their service and achievement during 2020. Louisiana Societies represented were Ann Fairfax Society, Baton Rouge; Fort Atkinson Society, Lake Charles; Captain William Pickles Society, Covington; and Fort Jesup Society, Many. State President Nicholas Tarver chose as his state project Why No Man’s Land and members were encouraged throughout the year to learn more about the area and its historical importance. The State Conference showcased the area and members learned even more with hands on activities at two state parks.
The group met at Los Adaes to begin their adventure into No Man’s Land. The Heritage Ranger, Logan Schlatre, gave a brief history of the mission, the fort, and the Indians and settlers of the area to the group. Members then enjoyed a basket weaving craft indoors.
Following the Los Adaes adventure, members traveled to Fort Jesup for lunch of beef stew in the Historic Kitchen. Immediately after lunch the group met in the Fort and the annual conference meeting was called to order by Senior State President Lauren Pourciau Durr with L.S.C.A.R. State President Nicholas Tarver presiding.
