THE COUNTRY VOTE

This article recently appeared in LaPolitics.com.

Several rural parishes that supported Governor John Bel Edwards in 2015 are now solidly in the corner of GOP challenger Eddie Rispone, or strongly leaning his way.

In the 2015 primary Edwards managed to win the most primary votes in 12 rural parishes that U. S. Senator Mary Landrieu lost in 2014. Black folks were a driving force in this election and it is also the country vote that helped Edwards cross the line. Those parishes were Jackson, Webster, Avoyelles, Union, Winn, Ouachita, Franklin, Richland, Lincoln, Catahoula, West Feliciana, Washington, Tangipahoa, St. Charles, Livingston, Ascension, St. Mary, Jefferson Davis, Calcasieu, Beaurgeard, Allen, Evangeline, and Rapides.
