The Family of Ernest Rodrigues (1937-2019) have generously donated this Kansas City Southern Railroad Depot Wagon to the Toledo Bend/Zwolle Historical Museum. Everyone knows Ernest Rodrigues always had a story to tell, and the story of this wagon is no different. As the story goes, he was putting up a fence for a lady and noticed the old wagon on her property. He asked her if she would sell him the wagon, and she said she could not part with it because her late husband loved it. Her husband had brought it home from the old train depot in Zwolle in the 1960-70s. It was originally used in the loading dock area in the depot for transporting baggage and mercantile goods. Ernest offered to fence her entire yard and accept the wagon as payment, and she still declined. Every now and then Ernest would see the lady and ask if she was ready to sell him the wagon yet, and she’d always say no.
