A total of 22 different agencies including fire, law enforcement, EMS, and industry converged on the North Sabine Fire District’s training center over the weekend to receive training on what to do in case of a railway derailment emergency thanks to new capabilities installed at the facility.

The training is the first of many to come thanks to a new permanent fixture at the facility for recurring training, which features four full-sized and authentic rail cars arranged in such a way to simulate a derailment.

“KCS has sent the elite men in their field here to conduct training over three days to multiple agencies from across and beyond Louisiana,” said North Sabine Fire Department Chief Nick Spann. “This type of training will become a common occurrence at the facility in the near future. At one of the future sessions we will actually have the train cars catch on fire, which will add another dimension of realism to the training, as this is just the beginning of it all.”
