Every year the Sabine Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) of Many, Louisiana honors a landowner who improves his farm with our assistance as the O.E. Williams, Jr. Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the Year Award stated Mr. Jim Pratt of the SWCD at the 23rd annual luncheon on December 6.

“It is always our hope that this award will be the highlight of our farmer’s year. In October we chose Mr. Benny Bell of the Terrellville Community in the northeastern part of our parish as the 2017 winner. We were very aware of his stellar career as the Vocational Agriculture teacher at Ebarb High School. Under his leadership the Ebarb Future Farmers of America Club has won numerous state and national awards. Bell has also been recognized as a stand out chapter advisor on the national FFA scene. He is the only FFA advisor in north Louisiana to receive the Honorary American FFA degree. Additional kudos for having the most active chapter for three years in a row in the state. A lot of competition with his teaching career was to be expected. Then on October 28th a buck steps out on a pipeline on his 400 acre lease. One shot later Benny downs a monster 16 point buck. In a matter of a few minutes he is going down in the state record books with the largest buck killed in DeSoto Parish to date. A record that will probably stand for a long time. Many people have viewed the story in the Louisiana Sportsman magazine and website. Soon he will be featured in the national publication, Buckmasters Magazine. October was a really special month for Benny.”
