Intelligent, confident, and self-assured describe Mackenize Martinez, a 2017 graduate of Ebarb High School. These traits were the catalyst to land Mackenize as the recipient of the 2017-2018 Louisiana Association of Conservation Districts (LACD) Scholarship. Each year the LACD awards one scholarship to a Louisiana graduating high school senior who is planning to enter an institution of higher learning within the State of Louisiana as a full-time under-graduate student in the field of agriculture, natural resources, or environmental sciences.
The Sabine Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) of Many was one of 44 conservation districts who could nominate a district winner. Community service, extra-curricular activities, honors, and awards are criteria to determine the winner. Martinez’s participation in Future Farmers of America, 4-H, Choctaw Apache Tribe of Ebarb as an Agriculture Ambassador to Native Youth in Food and Agriculture, and the LSU Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences Scholar were winning accomplishments.
