Emancipation Day, also called Freedom Day or June-teenth, celebrates the official reading of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas on June 19, 1865. Juneteenth weekend, June 19-20, will provide a special time to re-flect on the history and rich cultural contributions of Afri-can-Americans.The Many Cultural Dis-trict announces several ac-tivities to honor the enormous influence African-Americans have had on both the Ameri-can culture as a whole and the creation of a distinct Black heritage.
