Larry Arthur, 73, of Shongaloo, LA, entered eternal rest on Dec 21, 2025, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 9, 1952, in Zwolle, LA to Irene and Boston Arthur.

Larry had some unique challenges but was proud of the life he lived and the friends he made—he never met a stranger! He was especially fond of those friends, siblings and cousins he grew up with. He cherished memories of spending time with his family while living at the old homeplace on Hwy 6 and grandparents’ places on Recknor Rd and the Pendleton area. Larry resided in Negreet and the Toledo Bend area for many years and attended Negreet H. S. where his favorite subject was Agriculture and he enjoyed playing basketball with the Negreet Indians.

He worked early on with Cousin Kenny Carter at the former Frasier Hospital in Many as a custodian and was proud to have worked with the LA Highway Dept for a short time. Some of his favorite pastimes were exploring the woods and fishing, whether at the pond at his grandparents’, the old family homeplace or at Toledo Bend, watching wrestling, baseball and other sports, as well as old Westerns on TV. In his younger days he loved listening to his radio and 8-track tapes and cheerfully singing along to some of his favorite old Country Music!

Larry was an early member of Beulah Baptist Church and came to know the Lord under the shepherding of Rev Cody Salter when he was a youth and often reflected on the baptismal ceremony, he was a part of at a pond near the church at that time.

Left to cherish Larry’s memory are siblings: James Arthur of Shreveport, LA; Karen Lajune (Arthur) Smallwood of Gainesville, GA; Rhonda (Arthur) Murray and husband Troy of Coushatta, LA; Richard Arthur and wife, Kameron of Lansing, MI; sister-inlaw Fay Arthur of Milam, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Irene and Boston Arthur; brothers: Gary Arthur and Douglas Arthur; brother-in-law Danny Smallwood; maternal grandparents Claude and Joy Carter, and paternal grandparents Jefferson and Lula Arthur.

Funeral services will be held at 12 O’clock, Friday, Dec 26th at Beulah Baptist Church, in Many, LA with Kenny Carter officiating the service. A viewing and visitation will be held 2 hours before the service from 10am to 12pm. Burial will be at the Beulah Cemetery with arrangements in the care of Warren Meadows Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the Evergreen Life Services team in Webster Parish for their care and compassion in watching over Larry the past 40 years, Minden Medical Center Oncology Dept, as well as Gentiva Hospice staff of Bossier for making him comfortable in his last stage of life.

The family respectfully suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or cause of your choice.
