Funeral Services for Jimmie S. Hammond will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many, LA with Bro. Matt Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Florien Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM until the time of service at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many, LA.
Jimmie S. Hammond, 87, passed away on December 12, 2025, in Abilene, Texas. Born on January 22, 1938, in Kermit, Texas to John and Florence Hammond.
Jimmie graduated from high school in Andrews, Texas, in 1956. He played the bass guitar in several bands across Texas. He loved gospel music and played bass for the group Certain Sounds. They cut several albums and traveled across Louisiana.
He was a veteran of the US Army and was stationed in Korea and Germany. He was an outstanding fast-pitch pitcher in the Army and in his community. He was a man of many talents, from offshore rigger to a mechanical technician at Ft. Walters, Tx, an electrician, truck driver, and farmer. Most of all, He loved the Lord and his church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Billie Corley Hammond; stepson, Dr. Jack Corley Jr.; and nephew Jay Cox.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Barineau; sister, Fern Koonce; stepdaughter, Gay Corley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Danny Neal, John Britton, Ricky Arthur, Russel Peace, Willie Corley, and Joc Corley.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Charles Corley. A special thank you to his sister Fern and her son Rick for their care of him for the last six months, to Danny Neel for his loyal friendship and care.
