Mary Osborn passed away October 31, 2025.
Mary was born January 15, 1932 in Huntington, Texas at the home of Josh and Birdie Herrington, her maternal grandparents.
Mary was preceded in death by her son Robert Charles Bozeman Raines, her parents Rev. Robert Armstrong Bozeman and Maxie Herrington Bozeman, her brothers Dr. James Richard Bozeman and Rev. Robert Ray Bozeman.
Mary is survived by her husband William Osborn, her sister Martha Elizabeth Griffith, her daughter-inlaw Kathy Raines and four grandchildren, Dallas, Devon, Max and Chase Raines, three nieces, four nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from Belmont High School. She received a BA degree from Centenary College in Shreveport in speech and English and an MA degree in Theatre from Baylor University in Dallas.
After a successful acting career throughout the ArkLaTex, New York City, and other places, Mary and her husband Bill returned to her roots in Belmont, LA in September 1991. She and Bill organized the Sabine Parish and Shakespeare Players and for 27 years gave back to the community she loved. Their original production of “A Christmas Carol” ran for 20 years ending in December 2018. They are most remembered for her one-woman presentation of “Sim, One Night with a Lady Undertaker” which the New York Times called “entertaining, funny, touching Americana”.
When asked, “Why are the arts important to our community?” Mrs. Bozeman wrote: “They provide us with a look at the human condition and help us to place ourselves within its context. They differentiate us from the beasts of the field and help us to discern the difference between good and evil. They instill in young people an awareness of their innate value and help them to develop self-esteem. They enrich the spirit of each of us and of life itself.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the First Methodist Church of Pleasant Hill with Rev. Dean Crittenden and Rev. Mike Stewart officiating.
The family extends thanks to Superior Hospice for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Sabine Humane Society, 520 McDonald Drive, Many, LA 71449.
