Butterflies, hummingbirds, and tourists have something in common. They are all attracted by colorful plantings; however, unlike the birds and butterflies, tourists have overflowing wallets. In fact, many towns and cities spend thousands of dollars to hire professionals in the field of horticulture because city leaders recognize the financial benefit of careful plantings.
Quite simply: beautiful plants bring tourists, and tourist dollars benefit local citizens.
Fortunately, the people of Sabine Parish have an organization that helps beautify our area for free. While most people know about Sabine Master Gardeners from their highly successful annual gardening seminar which will be held this year on February 15, 2025, fewer realize the greater impact of this day of education and fun.
Quite simply: the money raised by the garden seminar is like a tree that scatters dollars instead of leaves around our community.
From seminar proceeds, the Sabine Master Gardeners have been able support projects across the parish including those at Hodges Gardens, Sabine Council on Aging, DAV Veterans park, Sabine Humane Society, Sabine Parish Library at Toledo Town, Four Corners, the Rose Garden at Cypress Bend, as well as activities coordinated by Bass Unlimited.
Most recently, the local volunteer organization of Master Gardeners provided funds for the landscaping of the newly opened Zwolle Museum and provided 4H scholarships to support local children.
Tickets are now available for the Sabine Master Gardener’s February 15, 2025, seminar which will be held at Cypress Bend Resort.
