The annual walk and remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr., will be held at King’s Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church on Monday, January 20 with the march starting at 10 a.m. at the Delta Car Wash and program beginning at 11 a.m. at the church.
This year’s speaker will be the Rev. Jerome Newsome, a native of North Carolina who currently resides in Leesville.
Newsome served in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years before retiring and answering the call of the ministry in 1980. He was well trained under the late Rev. Doctor Harrison Fields, Sr., of Leesville at the town’s New Willow Baptist Church.
He is currently the past or New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Many, where he has faithfully proclaimed the Gospel for the past 18 years. Newsome has been noted as an outstanding preacher with a love for the Gospel and compassion for God’s people.
The organizers of the march and observance are quite excited and expecting a spirit-filled occasion and hope to see all of you there.
