Psalms 27:7-8 “Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me and answer me. 8. When thou sadist, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, thou face, Lord will I seek.”
As we all know Psalms was written by David. We also know that they were written when he was a poor shepherd boy and then by him when he became King. Psalms 27 has 14 verses all teaching us about nature of God and how His people can trust Him in times of need. David is proclaiming in these two verses that he has nothing to fear because God is his light and his salvation. He belongs to God. What about us? Do you belong to God? If so, do we seek His face? How can we believe that He will hear us and will protect us if we don’t come to Him asking for His protection and against known and unknown threats? He’s there and waiting for you to have confidence that He hears you and will come to your aid.
If you are a believe you can find a way to the throne of grace by prayer. He calls us by His Spirit, by His word, by His worship, and by special providences! He loves us and He calls us to seek our mercies in Him. Theres something very heartwarming and tender about an all-powerful God asking us, mere humans to draw close to Him. When He asks to seek His face, He’s asking us to learn about Him, about His character and His heart. I think when we focus on His face, it causes us to know who He is instead of what He can give. He wants fellowship with us and that’s why He created mankind. That’s evident when He calls us His children.
Why does he even have to ask us to seek His face? He is the one that gave us life, and breath and blessed us abundantly. He does ask because His heart’s longing and our fleshly desires are selfish and self-centered.
Do you ever wish for a friend whom you can always confide in and who never fails to give you strength and peace so you can face the issues of life? Well, we have one friend who does, our Lord Jesus Christ. You know that song we sing in church “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear what a privilege to carry everything to Him in prayer.” It’s a privilege to come to Him asking for relief and strength and peace knowing that He will do whatever it takes to protect us. Isn’t that the way we feel about our children and our families. Do we do whatever it takes to provide comfort and safety for them? Jesus is a friend that you can come to and have heart to heart talks with. You don’t have to speak in perfect English or perfect sentences or follow some religious form. I do truly believe that if you pour out your heart to Him, He won’t let you leave the same way you came. We all have days that we are so discouraged about issues in our lives, and we wonder if He really understands, but He calls it faith when we come as we are in all our discouragements and distress asking for His comfort.
You ask “Does he really hear us? Is He too busy to listen to my minor complaints? God will always bend an ear to hear His people. Nothing is too unimportant too large or too small for Him to answer. This is His nature to minister to His created without reservations. Sometimes He does not act as we expect, but He is NEVER wrong in His decisions. We must adjust our expectations by trusting in His Sovereignty. Even when we don’t like His answer of no or wait. How do we respond? Shaken but not shattered. He intercedes for us and when the dust settles, and shock is worn off the Christian goes back to the throne for more love and strength. Bending to the will of a God that knows best for us and loves us. Believers have a privilege of living before the face of the One who created you and gave you salvation.
