Psalm 103:10-11: “He hath not dwelth with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him.”
What a beautiful hymn of praise David wrote rejoicing in God’s faithfulness to Israel at that time and the Church today. It is by grace and mercy of God that the burden of sin, we all carry, and which condemns us to eternal death and hell has been lifted and the barrier of sin that excludes us from the presence of God has been removed.
God makes everything come out right! He is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, rich in love. He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, does not hold grudges forever. He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs. As parents feel for our children so God feels for those that fear Him. He knows us inside and out. Men and women don’t live very long; like the flowers they spring up, blossom and die. Sometimes leaving nothing to show they were here. But God’s love, though, is ever and always making everything right for those and their children that follow His ways and remember to do what He says.
Psalm 103:12: “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.”
The universe is expanding, and the Bible says that the earth is in the center of God’s universe. But by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus, every single sin, PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE, has already been removed as far as the east is from the west. They will be remembered NO MORE. If God has done this marvelous deed and separated us forever from our sin, then we should accept the fact that there is now NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.
Did you notice He said as far as the east is from the west, instead of saying as far the north is from the south? I found that very interesting, so I researched this fact. The north is about 12,500 miles from the south. You can only go north until you get to the North Pole, then you are going south. And as soon as you get to the South Pole, you are going north again. If you are going straight through it is shorter than 12,500. If you start off going east, you will continue to go east for the rest of your life. if you don’t change directions. Or if you start off going west then you will be going west the rest of your life. I’m glad He said as far as the east is from the west, rather than as far as the north is from the south, because I want my sins farther away than the north and south. Science is changing theories we once had are out the window and new ideas are discovered. Facts can’t change. So it must be that the scientist were wrong. We did not evolve from a tadpole. We don’t know how high the heaven is above earth, but however it is, that’s just how high God’s mercy is towards us.
The breath of God’s love reaches the four corners of earth and heaven. “For God so loved the world.” Psalm 139:9 “If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.”
The length of God’s love is eternal, stretching back before the worlds began, for He gave His only begotten Son… (John 3:16) The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelations 13:8) The depth of love reaches the pit of hell… encompassing all, including me, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish (John 3:16) The height of God’s love is to seat you in heavenly places in Christ. His love places you where He is and where we shall be-- life for all ages.
Christ paid the price for our sins and broke the power of sin in our lives. God in His grace and mercy has taken every one of those foul thoughts, words, and deeds, and flung them forever into the outer limits of extremity.
