Marjorie McComic Salter peacefully received her complete and ultimate healing, surrounded by family, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Union Baptist Church, Belmont, Louisiana, at 2:00 p.m.. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until service time. Following the internment at Belmont Cemetery, friends are invited to share food and fellowship with the family at the church hall. Bro. Buddy Greer and Bro. Patrick Morgan will officiate the service. Tributes will also be given by the grandsons.

Marjorie Evelyn was born on July 26, 1936, and lovingly raised by her mother, Beulah Russell, at Bayou Scie among her beloved Russell cousins, aunts, and uncles, with whom she ate well and laughed often. She was in the Zwolle High Class of 1954.

On November 20 of that same year, Marjorie married her soulmate, Garland Zane Salter. They settled in Belmont in the early 60’s, working on their land and in their church, raising children, and extending their unlimited love and hospitality…together…celebrating 60 years of marriage shortly before Zane’s home-going in 2015. Their family takes great comfort in knowing these two are now joyously reunited just days before the 70th anniversary of their legendary love story.

Margie and Zane were blessed with five children, Garland Chris Salter, Sharon Salter Brock, Karen Kaye Salter, Kimberly Salter Auld, and Bradley Cade Salter.

Margie and Zane extended their unmatched hospitality far beyond the boundaries of bloodlines. The Salter family home was the nucleus for epic gatherings and boundless love which are core memories for countless kids and folks of all ages. Margie and Zane devoted their whole lives to quietly making others matter and we are grateful to God for their example.

Margie and Zane’s family grew to include daughters- in-law, Eva Leone Salter and Bobbie Jo Terrell Salter; along with son-in-law, John Wesley Auld. The Salters gladly welcomed the families of these three special people into their own.

In addition to Garland Zane and her beloved mother, we know Margie is overjoyed to be reunited with precious daughter, Karen Kaye, who has been an angel since 1974, and devoted grandson, John Wesley “Trey” Auld III, who gained his wings in the Line of Duty, November 19, 2017.

Margie’s love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. They are honored to serve as pallbearers and the honor escort. Grandchildren Christopher Kyle Salter and wife, Dena, Julian Cade Salter, Karly Kaye Brock, Tiffany Auld Short and husband, Travis, Bradley Chance Salter and wife, Kelly, Tyler Zane Auld and Kacie Brown, aspire to continue to live Mamaw’s legacy of selfless service and love. Her legacy will also live on in great-grandchildren, Wesley Hayes, Christopher Cohen, Caleb Zane, Kaylyn Camille, William Zane, Harlow Rose, Parker Hayes, Noah Wesley, Easton Travis and Levi Spencer.

The family wishes to extend the deepest gratitude to these wonderful caregivers who will always be family - Cathy Carhee Ford, Mattie Williams, and Jennifer Gorum; Justina Terrell and Hospice of Natchitoches; as well as, Margie’s beloved niece, Nanette Bienvenu, and The Courtyard of Natchitoches.

In lieu of memorials, please make some groceries and fix a pot of something good to eat, then pass a good time with the people you love. And, please always seize every opportunity to be someone somebody needs, just like Marjorie Salter did every single day. For this, and for your continued prayers, the Salter family is forever grateful.
