Ongoing Spay/Neuter Program The Sabine Humane Society offers a monthly spay and neuter voucher program. Vouchers are available to the first 15 callers, and the society will pay 50 percent of the cost to the vet. For those on Medicaid or Medicare, the society will pay 100 percent of the cost of spaying or neutering.
Interested parties are asked to call 318-315-2874 at 8 a.m. on the first day of the month. You should leave a message indicating you are interested in a voucher and provide your name and phone number.
Spay/Neuter Assistance Get your pet fixed for FREE! If you are a resident of Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Sabine, or Webster Parish and take home $1,500 or less per month OR are married and, as a couple, take home $2,500 or less per month, Robinson’s Rescue will spay/neuter your pet and provide them with a rabies vaccine for free. This free program is referred to as our Subsidized Spay/Neuter Incentive Program (SSNIP).
To apply for a SSNIP voucher you must visit Robinson’s Rescue, located at 2515 Line Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71104, between the hours of 9 a.m.3 p.m. and bring with you printed proof of income or proof or government assistance showing your monthly income (examples include pay stubs, food stamps budget sheets, social security benefit summaries, etc.) and your Louisiana I.D.
Once a voucher has been written for you, you may then schedule an appointment at Robinson’s Rescue for your pet to be spayed/neutered. If you have additional questions regarding our financial assistance, please fill out a contact form on our website.
SNAP outreach services The Food Bank of Central Louisiana’s SNAP Outreach Coordinator, Sheila Jarred, will travel throughout the organization’s service area to assist with food stamp applications. Appointments and telephone interviews can be scheduled by calling the Food Bank of Central Louisiana at 318-445-2773 or 318-792-4036.
They are at the Sabine Parish Council on Aging the fourth Wednesday of every month from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides families in poverty with benefits to purchase food. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) reports several Louisiana parishes where only 60 percent of those eligible participate in the program.
In addition to providing assistance with SNAP applications, the Food Bank’s Outreach Coordinator can also assist with applications for child care assistance program, child support assistance program, child support enforcement program, family independence temporary assistance program, kinship care subsidy program, disaster supplemental nutrition assistance program formerly known as disaster food stamps.
Alzheimers support group
A free monthly support group is available to families and loved ones who care for someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
The meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at noon. A lite lunch is provided.
The meeting is hosted by the Sabine Council on Aging at 200 Legacy Drive, Many. The groups are facilitated by Many Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Insights Behavioral Hospital.

Ft. Jesup events The Friends of Fort Jesup will be hosting several Living History events at Fort Jesup Historic Site in 2023. The historic site remains on caretaker status so these events may be your only chance to visit Fort Jesup State Historic Site this year.
Fort Fest: History, Heritage, Arts and Crafts Festival – Saturday September 12. Visit Fort Jesup and learn about the history and heritage of the military post and community of Fort Jesup from the Louisiana Purchase through the creation of the site as State Historic Site in the 1960s. There will be Living History Demonstrations, arts and crafts, games, and activities for all ages through the day.

Community Healthways Community Healthways is in place and offers locals access to a number of community resources including secure housing, transportation, job search help, paying utilities, food, counseling, and education.
The program links Louisiana residents with a Community Health Worker who can provide oneon- one advice and assistance.

Domestic Violence Support Group
Project Celebration in Many will hold domestic violence survivor group sessions every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the PCI building in Many.
Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviors used to gain power and control over another person. Abuse can be verbal, emotional, phycological, financial, sexual, and/or physical.
Domestic violence is not an isolated, individual event, but a series of controlling and manipulative behaviors used to control the victim.
The violence usually escalated over time and can result in serious injury or death.
Those needing help are reminded that they are not alone and that love is not abuse.

After-school program Sabine Community Connection is reopening their after-school program for children 5-14 on August 22 from 2:45 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
They offer help with homework plus educational and fun games. There is also an outdoor playground. SCC will also serve a snack every afternoon.
Volunteers are welcome and needed.

March 16 Steel Magnolia Run In a celebration of community, health, and philanthropy, Historic Downtown Natchitoches will set the stage for the 6th Annual Steel Magnolia Run on March 16, 2024. The event, organized by the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Foundation, promises a day filled with camaraderie, fitness, and support for a crucial cause.
The Steel Magnolia Run is not just a 5K; it’s a heartfelt initiative to rally behind the NRMC Cancer Center. All proceeds from the run will be directed towards cancer center initiatives as we continue to takes steps towards advancing the quality of cancer treatment in Natchitoches Parish.
Participants will have the option to choose between a 1-mile walk/ run and a 5K walk/run. The scenic route along the Historic Downtown Natchitoches Riverbank will provide a picturesque backdrop for the event. Participants will receive a swag bag filled with goodies and a custom Steel Magnolia Run T-shirt, serving as a tangible reminder of their contribution to a great cause.
Beyond the physical challenge, runners will be running for a cause close to their hearts, knowing that their involvement directly contributes to enhancing healthcare services in Natchitoches Parish.
