After the Many Tigers soundly defeated DeRidder 34-13 on September 8, the team put on quite the performance to win 45-42 over Haughton in double overtime on September 15.
The Haughton Buccaneers kicked off to begin the game and within minutes the Many Tigers were in the red zone and looking to score. It’d be Jeremiah James with a 14-yard rushing touchdown to put the Tigers on the board first. The point attempt by Deacon Lafollette saw the score move to 7-0.
The Buccaneers answered back immediately and tied the game 7-7, which is how the score remained the rest of the first quarter.
Shortly into the second quarter of play, a pass gave the Buccaneers their first lead of the game 147. Later, a 50-yard pass completed to Jamarion Montgomery saw them score again and bring the score to 21-7.
The Tigers scored minutes later when Tylen Singleton hit paydirt on a 16-yard run to make the score 21-14 with the Buccaneers still in the lead.
On the ensuing series, Haughton worked their way down to the Many red zone, only to have a fumble recovered by Many’s Jonas Hendrickson on the five-yard line.
The Tigers made the most of the turnover and drove down the field yet another time before Singleton scored his second touchdown of the game to tie it all at 21-21.
Haughton then saw the woes of their previous drive come to light again, as Many Tiger Garet Culverson recovered a fumble at the Buccaneer’s 36-yard line. The Tigers then took the lead after James hit paydirt from 16-yards out.
Most in attendance expected that to be the score going into halftime, but Buccaneer quarterback Jalen Lewis completed a pass to Xaveria McDuffy Jr. in the waning seconds of the half to tie the score again at 2828.
The third quarter began with Many kicking off to Haughton, whose first drive stalled and required a punt. Much like the first drive of the game, Many drove down to the Buccaneer red zone before James crossed into the end zone from six yards out. Lafollette’s aim remained accurate to give Many the lead again 35-28.
The score would be tied yet another time after McDuffy completed a pass to Caden Allen.
Minutes into the fourth quarter, Haughton’s Davontay Moss scored to bring the score to 35-41 in the Buccaneers favor. Later in the fourth quarter, James scored yet again to tie the game 42-42, which is how the score remained until the end of regulation.
The score remained the same throughout the first overtime before Lafollette struck true once again to end the game and give the Tigers a victory by score of 45-42.
In the next game, the Tigers will face the Newman Greenies in a non-district game on Friday, September 22. They will look to build on the momentum they’ve built in the early weeks of the season.
