The Many Bass Club’s second tournament of the 2023 season took place on February 11 and 12. The weather on Saturday was raw, cold, windy and rainy with temps in the mid 40’s. Sunday was calm, with lows in the upper 30’s and highs in the upper 50’s with much welcomed sunshine. The water temps were in the mid to upper 50’s. Most of our anglers targeted the shallow bite. The top three stringers and the tournament’s big fish all came from two to six-foot water depths. The fish were active and shallow in spite of the weather conditions. Five double- digit stringers were weighed in. The winning anglers reported that their fish were predominately caught around shallow cover or grass.

Congratulations to Johnny Flowers for catching the winning stringer that also included the Big Fish of the weekend. Johnny’s five fish weighed 17.27 pounds and his largest fish weighed 5.65 pounds. Johnny fished Sunday and reported that he caught his fish on Rattle Traps and spinnerbaits around grassy drains in less than 6 feet of water. Lee Ballard braved the nasty weather on Saturday and placed second with five fish that weighed 13.88 pounds. Lee fished mid-lake areas around grass and shallow cover. James Edwards also fought the Saturday weather and placed third with five fish that weighed 13.16 pounds. James reported that he caught his fish on chatterbaits around shallow wood in the mid-lake area.

The Angler of the Year race is now lead by Johnny Flowers with 34.66 points, followed by a tight group separated by just a few points. Tim Oxley has 28.80 points, followed by James Edwards with 26.28 points, Glen Swihart with 25.91 points, Jimmy Campbell with 25.72 points, and George Herr with 24.22 points.

Congratulations to these anglers!
