Mr. Nicholas Tarver and Miss Haley Flynn of the Fort Jesup Society, C.A.R. attended the National Convention of the Children of the American Revolution which was held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, Virginia, (near Washington, DC) April 22–24, 2022. The National President, Jacob Shadinger, of Illinois presided at the convention. The Senior National President was Lori Walters of Texas.
The convention events began with a Memorial Service at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria, Virginia. Following the memorial, a wreath laying ceremony took place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolutionary War. The ceremony was conducted by Nicholas Tarver, National Chairman of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolutionary War. The wreath, presented by the Louisiana Society, was placed by State President Michael Dunlap of the Ann Fairfax Society in Baton Rouge.
The group then toured the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. This memorial was dedicated and transferred to the National Park Service on October 5, 2014.
During the convention, National Officers for the 2022–2023 C.A.R. year were elected, reports of State Presidents and National Chairmen were given, local society awards were made, and the Nation’s Outstanding C.A.R. Society for this year was announced. Haley Flynn served as the Louisiana Flag bearer and Nicholas Tarver presented his report to the convention.
Newly elected National Officers as well as State and Senior State Presidents were installed at ceremonies at Mount Vernon on Sunday morning.
Fort Jesup Society member Haley Flynn was installed as the Louisiana Society State President. Haley is a senior at LSMSA in Natchitoches and will attend University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Mary Beth Tarver, Sabine Chapter, DAR member, was installed as the Louisiana Senior State President.
Fort Jesup members were excited to share in the enthusiasm of Miss Cagle Kaough, Fort Atkinson Society, Lake Charles, being elected to the office of National President. Miss Kaough attends the Ogden Honors College at LSU. Her National Project is to support Our Military Kids, a national organization that recognizes the sacrifice of children of deployed National Guard, deployed Reserve, or post 9/11 combat-injured service members by offering extracurricular activity grants that build the child’s self-confidence, enhance family wellness, and strengthen a shared sense of community.
Fort Jesup Society is located in Many. The Children of the American Revolution is the oldest patriotic youth organization in the United States.
