Gladys Boice, 98, was born December 2, 1922, and died July 22, 2021 at Sabine Retirement in Many. Gladys (known as Bebe to family) enlisted in the Army in 1944. She was stationed at Camp Kilmer in New Jersey and was honorably discharged in 1949. She continued to live in New Jersey with her husband, Samuel Boice until they moved to Many in the early 1960s. Gladys was employed as a meter maid and then went on to work for the Many Police Department and eventually retired from the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s office. She continued to live in Many until moving to The Glen Retirement Center in Shreveport where she lived for 20 years.

Known fondly to the community as “Miss Gladys,” she endeared herself to hundreds over the years. Always ready to help anyone, she earned a reputation for being kind and for being a hard-working lady. A woman of small stature, she won the admiration of all whom she worked with.

Family was important to “Aunt Bebe.” She was a loving sister and aunt who enjoyed spending time with all of us. She was the aunt the cousins went to for help from learning how to walk up steps to our youthful adventures.

Gladys was the eighth child born to James and Maitlin Ross. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Boice; and her siblings, E.C. Ross; Alma Ross Edwards; Allen “Tink” Ross; Cecil “Doc” Ross; Mable Ross; Katherine Ross Derrick; Bill Ross; Bernice Ross Williams; Evelyn Ross; Dean Ross Corley; Charlsie Ross Wright; three nephews, Oscar Ross; Randall Ross; and Danny Derrick; and one niece, Frances Ross Speight. She is survived by 17 nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends and family.
